Health Canada to extend the validity period of existing licenses to June 30th, 2019

March 29, 2019 - Given the unique circumstances in 2019 of transitioning to the new Industrial Hemp Regulations and the new online application system (CTLS), Health Canada is extending the validity period of existing licences to June 30th, 2019 for all those who have not yet received their 2019-20 licence renewals.

The Department will be communicating specific details to all licence holders.

In addition, Health Canada will implement a staggered renewal month system to spread out the license renewal work going forward.  CHTA encourages members to apply 3-6 months in advance of their license expiry date, to provide ample time for the renewal process to be completed.

Health Canada has published two documents to support applicants in the application process. The Industrial Hemp Application Guideand the Cannabis Tracking and Licensing System (CTLS) User Guide (attached).

Members who have not yet submitted their renewal will need to do so quickly to provide enough time to process their renewal before June 30, 2019. The department’s service standard for processing applications is 60 business days (12 weeks).

Health Canada’s call centre can help to answer questions that members might have with CTLS. Applicants can reach client service staff by calling 1-866-337-7705 and selecting option 3 for CTLS.

Health Canada will be scheduling a webinar/teleconference to assist applicants in using the CTLS application in the next 2 weeks. Stay tuned for information on time and date.
